This film is a rural drama that captures the essence of motherhood and parenting in a unique way, with humor, warmth, and cunning dialogue.
The story is about Marlo (Charlize Theron), a mother of three young children who lives in an affluent suburb outside New York City. Marlo is struggling with postpartum depression after giving birth to her third child, Mia. Her husband Drew (Ron Livingston) is helpful but distant and preoccupied with his job. Marlo feels alone and overwhelmed by the demands of parenting.
